SDIA Award 2024 Brings Together Taiwan’s Smart-Display Pione

The Industrial Development Administration of the Ministry of Economic Affairs established the Smart Display Industrial Alliance (SDIA) in 2021 to accelerate the growth of Taiwan’s smart display industry by connecting display manufacturers, equipment providers, and application integration services to strengthen cross-sector collaboration. SDIA held the SDIA Award 2024 to recognize forward-looking smart display manufacturers and promote the development of applications and solutions across diverse fields, translating innovative concepts into real-world impact. The awards ceremony, held on September 23, was attended by distinguished industry leaders, highlighting the strength of Taiwan's smart display industry on the international stage.

Now in its third edition, the SDIA Award is divided into two categories: Forward-Looking Technologies and Innovative Applications, focusing on criteria such as marketability, innovation, and technological impact. Each category awards Gold, Silver, and Bronze prizes to outstanding participants, aiming to energize the industry and drive further growth.

This year, 14 projects received prizes. In the Forward-Looking Technologies category, Gold prizes were awarded to AUO Corporation and Innolux Corporation. Silver prizes went to E Ink Holdings Inc. and Innolux Corporation, while Bronze prizes were awarded to AUO Corporation and PlayNitride Display Co. Ltd. Prizes of Excellence were given to PanelSemi Corporation and General Interface Solution Limited.

In the Innovative Applications category, Gold prizes were awarded to AUO Corporation and Innolux Corporation, while Silver prizes went to Lextar Electronics Corporation and Darwin Precisions Corporation. Bronze prizes were given to Himax Technologies Inc. and Liqxtal Technology Inc. The award-winning projects were exhibited at the ceremony hall to celebrate the vibrant achievements of Taiwan’s smart display industry.

Bolstered by government investment and SDIA initiatives, the smart display industry’s transformation is showing promising results. This year, industry players produced 35 integrated, customizable solutions and engaged 44 startups in project development, contributing to the country’s startup growth. Additionally, 14 projects were launched across the country, and five smart display solutions entered the international market, including a transparent translation wall with integrated AI services in Kobe Port, Japan, and electronic paper bus stands created in partnership with Tokachi Bus in Hokkaido. Moving forward, SDIA will continue collaborating with international partners through domestic and overseas conventions to expand business opportunities for Taiwan’s smart display industry.

By showcasing the diverse strengths of Taiwan’s display technology companies, SDIA aims to support the smart display industry’s transformation and advancement, focusing on developing high-value-added products and integrated systems and services. The SDIA will also foster application and solution development across various fields to turn theories into practical solutions, driving the industry’s evolution and shaping a promising future for the next generation of Taiwan-made displays.
